You fight for me
Like the day You parted the seas
Your love runs deep
My heart unravels
When I read the Words that You wrote
Just for me
I marvel at your strength
You have gone the greatest length
It doesn't matter what danger brings
Cuz You fight for me, You fight for me
No one can tear my heart away
Cuz You fight for me, You fight for me
I am amazed
No matter what gets in my way
You restore, You can break down every door
I am overwhelmed
How You've defeated even hell
Walls have fallen down
Demons have been cast out
By Your power, Your Power
Hearts have been renewed
The lost come back to You
By Your love

It's amazing to me how people fight. Father's fight for their daughters. Husbands fight for their wives and their families. We fight for those we love. I know of and have heard verbally from so many men who would do whatever it takes to protect their family. I'm so amazed at their passion and heroism in their hearts that is ignited at just the thought of pain caused in the lives of their loved ones.
One day after taking a break from writing, I was talking about this with my producer and a friend. My husband and I had just had this same conversation the night before. When everyone left, I couldn't get this thought out of my head. I somehow felt so unworthy but so prized because someone would do that for me. As my mind was racing with thoughts on our back porch, God started giving me this song. The words and melody just started coming out of my mouth. When thoughts just pop in my head like that-it's usually God speaking :o)
I brought this song to my producer the next day. As we worked on putting actual music to it and finishing it up-my mind kept thinking of my brother and his fiancé. They both run and work full time for SonnyVilla, an underpriviledged children's home, that my brother started a little over a year ago. They have been making huge impacts in the community and lives of the families and kids in their neighborhood and South Bend-and satan was attacking just as hard as they were working.
At the time we were writing this song, it was only a few weeks before their wedding. At this stage in the game, they had all their pictures together for their slideshow, a ton of information and ALL of their meetings and information stored for SonnyVilla in the new computer they had just gotten. Heartbroken, they walked into the office one day to find it gone after someone had broken in. It was one more attack that was a huge blow to their progress.
My emotions are so overwhelmed even still, writing about this. My brother is most likely the hardest worker you have ever seen. And his wife is definitely a gift from God to be able to work alongside of him. They have both been through so much-I hated seeing them hurt. I wanted so bad to encourage them and speak over them the loving hand of God and the miracles He works in our lives-believing it for them. And I knew God was doing just that.
As we continued to write the second verse of this song, I told Dustin this story-and out came the second verse and an awesome chorus-written specifically for them. As we were recording a scratch of it, my brother called to ask what I would sing at their wedding. I sent him this song. Later they told me that they had both sat in the car and listened to it over and over as it built their faith and spoke to their hearts. More than I had hoped for-only God can do that. When I came home and saw them at church, hugging them both we all had tears in our eyes and the beautiful story God had worked through each of us and through it, showed his love and beauty delicately and laced throughout every story.
A few weeks later I sang this song at their gorgeous wedding, at sunset on the most perfect day on the beach ever. She was the most beautiful bride with the biggest smile and he was there-overwhelmed and praising God for this gift. "Fight for Me" is dedicated to this amazing couple and the Love that Jesus has shown for them and everyone of us.

» God's Ability (10.06.11)Joanna, Just sending an email to let you know I really appreciated our conversation and the prayer you had for me. It actually made me start to think about how easily I've let my religious beliefs fall out of my life. I don't think there are enough people, especially our age, that put enough faith in prayer anymore.
