Don't Make Me Wait

©2009 Joanna Beasley, Dustin Burnett

I'm standing
watching the light
and waiting for it to change

I'm looking
at all of the people
going their different ways

I'm holding
my bags in one hand
I'm holding
hope in the other

Don't' make me wait forever
I'm on my final prayer
I can't hold it together
and I don't want to stay right here
but if You
want me to
just whisper in my ear
and I'll stay
just waiting
Waiting on You

I'll listen
for the directions
cuz You are the one who knows

but I'm still here
reading the street signs
but they don't know where to go

I'm holding
my hurt in one hand
I'm holding
Your love in the other

I'm waiting on Your word
And Your perfect time
I'm waiting on Your will
To come over my mine

I'm waiting on Your truth
I'm waiting on You
please save me

Story Behind the Song

Waiting, it seems to be the story of my life sometimes, even now as I write this. I'm waiting on God's timing to release these songs I'm writing about. It's a hard thing to do, it's hard when God is asking you to wait, it's not the right time, or maybe He wants to grow you before you walk into something. Whatever it is, we wait.

We search daily for the signs, trying to figure out what it is that we are waiting for or on. We search the Bible, we seek out counsel, we talk to our friends, family, anyone. Trying to figure out the answers of what we are waiting on or for. We search for peace, beg for it. Yet we go on with our days, not seeming to wait. Doing whatever we can to keep our mind off waiting, yet, are we actually waiting? Or maybe we are ignoring it all together, we are moving ahead even though we know we heard "wait." Or possibly, we are begging for a change, and waiting on that change, whether it's in us or within our circumstances.

"No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us." Philippians 3:13-14. I don't have all the answers, but I have seen the fruits of saying Yes to God. Saying yes when my heart is desiring something else, when everything seems to make sense to move ahead, but yet, something is saying…"wait."

During this time of waiting, we can choose to complain and just sit there. Or we can prepare ourselves for what we are waiting for. I heard a story of 2 farmers, both prayed for rain, yet only one prepared his crops for the rain. When the rain came, the farmer who didn't prepare for the rain-obviously didn't receive any blessings from the rain he prayed for. The one who did prepare-reaped a harvest! It's a simple example, yet holds so much truth to it.

Be prepared while you are waiting, take the time to focus in, work even harder, and the time to sit and listen on what God is asking or has called you to. There is freedom in waiting, Freedom in God's timing and God's plan. We don't have to worry or be stressed while we are waiting, because we know that God has given us freedom in our struggles.

Testimonials

When I found out you were coming to our church my first goal was to thank you for how much your music means to me. It has really inspired me to push past all the hard and difficult things in life and just LIVE for God, you know. I mean you have inspired me to be the girl I KNOW God wants me to be. Joanna your a great girl and our church is VERY blessed to have you!!!!

Jordan

We very much enjoyed the evening and it was important Daddy/Daughter time.  With your age and your experiences God has uniquely positioned you to reach the teen/pre-teen girls both in and out of the church. I pray that our Lord will continue to bless you and your ministry mightily and it will expand around the world.
